New mayor is first African-American to lead Roxboro

— Samuel Spencer, a retired educator elected mayor of Roxboro last week, is the first African-American to hold that office.

Spencer was sworn in Wednesday. He replaces Thomas Brown, who died earlier this year.

    Congratulations to Mr. Spencer. I am sure he will do a great job for a city and people he cares so much about. The news is he is good for Roxboro. You should be glad to have him. However Tiffany, if I were your parents and/or grandparents I'd always be wondering if you also thought I was on my way out. RDReaves

    Is the news just the fact that he is "African-American"? He appears to be on his way out. This country needs to start putting young blood into office instead of men and women set in their ways and can't see past their graduation date. Anyway, Thank God it's Friday......Oh yea! Congrats Mayer Spencer.
