— More than 100 Raleigh police officers were promoted Thursday during the largest promotion ceremony in the department’s history.

One officer rose to the rank of captain, while 21 became lieutenants, 49 sergeants and 40 detectives.

The promotions capped off a three-year restructuring plan put in place by Chief Harry Dolan, who joined the department in August 2007.

Dolan said the promotions better positions the department to serve the community.

"We're strengthening the command. We're strengthening the leadership, but also most importantly are putting emphasis on making sure the officers are trained and ready to do while the others become promoted," he said.

Up until this point, supervisors were pulling double duty.

"There's always a court jester out there...........", yes sctech, but then I would not want to take away any career advancement for you!! But thanks for trying!!

By all means, keep product testing how much urine a diaper will hold. Your job equals meaningless while the police actually face real danger.

Het sctech.... I've got a suggestion for you... If you’re ever in the unfortunate situation where you may need police help, I suggest that you call a gang member I'm sure they'd be glad to help ya, they aren't gun toting, power hungry egotistical fools! Congratulations to our hard working Raleigh police force

Journey985- I would recommend a ridealong for you. This will show you all of the ins and outs on the police force. Very good knowledge and maybe you will get lucky and experience a high speed chase. These officers are highly trained and until you ride with one for a twelve hour shift.... keep the lame comments off of here. I did two ridealongs and "yes" we did get into a chase and "yes" I am still here! Rode with one of the best out there!

journ, I read in the paper from time to time about electronics causing house fires, I guess your not doing your job very good. P.S. Thank you from keeping us safe from ill fitting Mr. Potato Head ears, think of the tragedy that could have happened if it were not for you being out there in all weather conditions around the clock playing with Fisher Price toys. You da man.

"On a side note.... Journey, as a "Products Safety Engineer" your job is to do exactly what you do here... Sit on your FA and criticize other people's work. YOU don't actually create, do, or build anything. So who has the more wasted life?" Jeff W

Thanks Jeff W for making me laugh, good one. journ, how does making sure a nose fits on Mr. Potato Head save millions of lives?

Congrats RPD. They do deserve recognition. Dolan is a big improvement over his predessor.
...and Journey...everyone knows that an engineer has no common sense or personality. You just confirmed it.

Wow, waiting for the day Journey needs LEO help. Those words you will have to eat will taste pretty bad.

  • WhitePony Nov 5, 2010

Yeah, Journey! Don't question authority. It's unAMERICAN! If you don't love the police, the eurasians...err, I mean, the terrorists win. Amirite, Jeff?
