HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. — Durham Technical Community College will create a sustainability technologies program at its Hillsborough campus thanks to a grant of approximately $250,000 from Duke Energy, officials announced Saturday.

The sustainability technologies program, which will include an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree, prepares students for employment in environmental, construction, alternative energy, manufacturing or other sustainability technologies.

Beginning this fall, the program will offer the solar photovoltaic installation certificate. Instruction includes both energy use analysis and solar photovoltaic system installation.

Since 2004, Duke Energy has awarded $10 million to support 50 separate training initiatives at North Carolina’s community colleges.
