CARY, N.C. — WRAL's Ken Smith took part in a media professional event Wednesday to promote the upcoming Jimmy V Racquets for Research fundraiser.

Smith and tennis pro Tim Wilkison, winner of six singles titles and nine doubles championships, hit the Raleigh Racquet Club for tennis match-ups.

The media day was to help promote the fifth annual Jimmy V Racquets for Research event, which is planned for Saturday, August 14.

The event raises money for local cancer research projects.

“This great event has continued to grow each year,” Nick Valvano, CEO of The V Foundation for Cancer Research, said in a statement. “It gives families in the Triangle a chance to combine their passion for tennis with their hope to defeat cancer. Cancer has touched so many lives, and this is another way The V Foundation can help support the fight by raising money for local cancer research projects.”

This year, Don Johnson, 2001 men’s doubles Wimbledon champion and collegiate tennis hall of famer, returns as the celebrity host of the event.
