Fox50 wins national service award

WRAZ Fox 50 won a service award from the National Association of Broadcasters' Educational Foundation Foundation Tuesday.

DURHAM, N.C. — WRAZ Fox 50 won a service award from the National Association of Broadcasters' Educational Foundation Foundation Tuesday.

WRAZ is owned by Capitol Broadcasting Corp., which is also the parent company of WRAL.

Jim Goodmon, president and CEO of Capitol Broadcasting, received the Service to America award from Sen. Richard Burr, R-N.C., and Federal Communications Commissioner Robert McDowell.

"Tonight we are very proud to be here to honor a truly dedicated television station in North Carolina," McDowell said.

Last year, WRAZ spearheaded community efforts including "Get Real, Get Tested" to promote the importance of HIV testing, "Fight NC Foreclosure" to assist homeowners faced with losing their homes, and "What Color Do YOU Bleed?" to encourage donations to the American Red Cross.

"The efforts of our team at WRAZ made a positive and measureable difference in the communities that we serve," Goodmon said.
