— The Triangle paused Saturday morning to remember Raleigh police officers killed in the line of duty since 1922.

A wreath-laying ceremony took place at Nash Square in downtown Raleigh.

After the ceremony, the "Run For Our Heroes" began. This is the second year for the race. It attracted almost 900 runners. Proceeds benefit the Raleigh Police Memorial Foundation.

WRAL's Kelcey Carlson won the women's overall division.

I ran in this race on Saturday and was impressed with how many officers (and their families) came from all over the state to support one another. It was also equally impressive to see the local support from those that aren't even related to any police officers.

It's nice to know that Raleigh hasn't forgotten those that made the ultimate sacrifice. However, it's a shame that this event didn't garner more media attention seeing as it benefits such a great cause.

So often people forget that police officers lay their lives on the line every day they suit up to protect our communities/loved ones and people the officers don't even know.
