'Barrel Monster' returns for Earth Day

Posted April 23, 2010

— A new sculpture by Raleigh's Joe Carnevale will debut in Cameron Village on the corner of Cameron and Woodburn on Saturday afternoon.

Carnevale first captured local and national attention with his "barrel monster," a humanoid figure made of construction materials that spoofed traffic diversions on Hillsborough Street.

His Cameron Village installation is part of the shopping plaza's Earth Day celebration. Carnevale, a student at North Carolina State University, is one of many area displaying work at Cameron Village to compete for a $1,000 prize.

So lame. WRAL (and the N+O, ABC, etc..) should all be ashamed that they keep reporting this.

Good for him! So glad to hear he is doing well and that NC is encouraging his talents instead of throwing him in jail. Just goes to show that when given a chance, some practical jokes can be turned into a good thing. I know it doesn't work for every kid making practical jokes, but I'm certainly glad it worked out for this guy!
