N.C. Zoo sets Good-Friday attendance record

Posted April 5, 2010

— The North Carolina Zoo set a best-ever Good-Friday attendance record and had its second-best attendance ever for the three-day Easter weekend, less than 200 visitors short of the record 29,256 set in 1995.

The zoo is located southeast of Asheboro off U.S. 220 and U.S. 64. Hours from April through September are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

Let's not blame the Zoo for the lack of workers. Let's blame the legistlature that cuts their funding every year. If you wanted to eliminate the waiting in line to get a ticket, consider joining the Zoo Society. It's much cheaper than the tickets and you don't have to wait in line. The Zoo could definitely use the money. Parking may have been an issue because the Zoo probably didn't expect a record crowd. I forone have been a Zoo member for along time and I give to various projects that they take on. North carolina now has the largest zoo in the country. Come on, let's be proud of that fact and support it when you can. The animals are awesome! They deserve our support.

I completely agree, Spoon. I was there as well and being that it was my family's first time there, we didn't have a clue where to go for parking. We were exhausted by the time we got into the gate!

I belive it. I was there - took 1 hr and 35 mins to go 1.4 miles into the zoo, park and get in line to purchase a ticket. And don't even mention the trip out in the traffic, again. The Zoo could have done a much better job of helping with the traffic and parking. There was absolutely NO ONE assisting with either. Won't do that again!!!!!!
