A Raleigh girl who made news with her music succumbed to cancer Sunday.

Eleanor Bothwell was 9 when she wrote “’Cause You Are Yourself,” a song about her battle with bone cancer, as part of the music therapy program at the North Carolina Children's Hospital.

She was 11 at the time of her death.

(Click here to hear Eleanor sing her song or read the lyrics.)

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. at North Raleigh United Methodist Church on Saturday.

In lieu of flowers, Eleanor's family suggests memorial contributions to support The Eleanor Bothwell Endowment Fund for Educational Initiatives in Pediatric Oncology. The family created this fund to support educational programs for caregivers in Pediatric Oncology.

Contributions can be sent to:

North Carolina Children’s Promise
c/o Eleanor Bothwell Education Fund
Campus Box 7237
Chapel Hill, NC 27599-7237

(Checks can be made payable to the North Carolina Children’s Promise. Memo line on check should read: Eleanor Bothwell Education Fund.)
