— The Labrador retriever is once again the most popular dog in Raleigh and the nation, according to the American Kennel Club.

The AKC released its annual local and national list of the most popular breeds. The local list counted the top 10 breeds found in Raleigh ZIP codes.

"Raleigh followed the lead of the rest of the country with a local Top 5 nearly identical to the national Top 5 list," said AKC spokeswoman Lisa Peterson. "The only change in 2009 was the German shepherd dog taking over the second spot from the beagle."

The German shepherd rose one spot to second place.

I love my lab. It's a good thing, too, because I am about to pay $2500+ to have her torn ligament fixed! (Knowing that it is just a matter of time until the other one blows out!)

    And 2assume, who doesn't love a lab?! :-)

    Here's a lab puppy "Angus"...

"Angus is a gentle, cuddly, 7-8 month old Chocolate Lab mix who’s very sweet, social, and a little sensitive. He’s very cooperative and food-motivated, and will be a great dog to train. He likes other dogs.

Angus will be a wonderful addition to a kind family."

Approximately 25-30% of animals in local shelters are purebreeds. Please, check there before buying an animal.
