Middle school fund drive raises $3,000 for Red Cross

Posted January 25, 2010

— A Cary girl, inspired by images of destruction in Haiti after the recent earthquake, rallied her fellow students to donate more than $3,000 to the relief effort.

Kate Ammerman, 12, printed up a flier about the quake and the country and led a group of students who went classroom to classroom asking their friends for $10 donations.

Over three days, the Davis Drive Middle School effort raised $3,682 for the American Red Cross, designated for Haiti.

Ammerman's father delivered the money Monday to Sam Matheny, chairman of the Triangle Area Chapter of the Red Cross.

That is great news. I love seeing so many folks, business...getting involved to help Haiti. Hunter Elementary School in Raleigh raised over $4000 last week.
