Helmick1

Lt. Gen. Frank Helmick assumed command of the XVIII Airborne Corps during a ceremony at the Main Post Parade Field at Fort Bragg on Thursday.

"There is a constant here at Fort Bragg," Helmick said. "It is the incredible officers, paratroopers and soldiers that make up this corps, as well as the Department of the Army civilians."

Helmick commanded the Multi-National Security Transition Command-Iraq along with the NATO Training Mission-Iraq from July 2008 to Oct 2009.

Helmick was commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant in the infantry in 1976 from the U.S. Military Academy.

He has commanded and served in many units, including the 3rd Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment; 82nd Airborne Division; Ranger Training Brigade; Assistant Division Commander of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) and Commander of the European Task Force (Airborne) in Vicenza, Italy.
