DURHAM, N.C. —  The annual, statewide North Carolina PrideFest was held Saturday at Duke University.

"This year's event at Duke East Campus will continue our legacy of gay-and-straight community-building and gay rights awareness building. Following our signature manner, it will bright, positive and focused on what we've accomplished together," said Keith Hayes, spokesperson for the Pride Committee of North Carolina.

The first pride parade in the state was held in 1981. Over 4,000 people attended this year's event, Hayes said.
