State Fair looking for temporary workers

If you want to work at the 2009 N.C. State Fair, applications are being accepted at the two Wake County offices of the state Employment Security Commission.

ESC Chairman Moses Carey Jr. said the fair will fill positions differently this year in anticipation of an increased demand. “In the past, people applied for State Fair jobs at our temporary office on the fairgrounds. To better accommodate the high volume of jobseekers, we are asking those interested in these jobs to come by our Wake County offices. In addition, we are extending the time allowed to apply for the various positions available,” he said.

Applications for the temporary positions can be filled out from Sept. 22 through Oct. 23 at the ESC office in Raleigh, 3351 Carl Sandburg Court, and at the Cary location, 742-F E. Chatham St. Ask for Job Order Number: NC 7267092.

The N.C. State Fair runs Oct. 15-25.

It'd be nice if folks could have the option of filling out applications on line so as to shorten up the lines at the ESC. I get the feeling it's still going to be crowded at both locations and it makes for a difficult situation for applicants and ESC employees.

tbfromnc, My comment was not geared towards the unfortunate people like yourself. I certainly hope you find gainful employment. My comment was centered around those people who, for whatever personal reason, chose not to work but to let the unemployment system support them; the same people who milk the system until the last days of unemployment benefits. I am sorry if my comment came across in the wrong way. Good luck in your job search.

Ezeegoing, what about those of us that are not eligible for unemployment. I have not worked in a year and have been self employed for 27 years. I am not eligible because I haven't worked for anyone who has paid umemployment insurance.

Didn't the issue of available jobs via the ESC come up before last years state fair ? It would seem reasonable for the Esc this year to put the folks presently drawing umemployment to work before anyone else ?

I take vacation time every year and have worked with the same eating establishment since 1997 and throughly enjoy it! I love meeting and talking with so many different people each year. Plus the bit of "extra income" doesn't hurt either!
