RALEIGH, N.C. — North Carolina State Fair officials believe this year's fair will be a financial success.

So far, the fair has sold 16,800 admission tickets, according to spokeswoman Carly Justice. The total is double the number of ticket sales sold this same time last year.

More than double the number of ride tickets, around 9,303, has also been sold.

The fair is crediting the early success to its social media efforts, including Twitter and Facebook pages. The fair's Web site has also undergone an upgrade and officials are heavily promoting fair-related blogs.

The fair is held Oct. 15-25 at the N.C. State Fairgrounds. Discount tickets are on sale online through Oct. 15. Adult tickets are $5 in advance and $7 at the gate. Children’s tickets are $1 in advance or $2 at the gate. Children 5 and under and seniors age 65 and older get in free.

Ride sheets can also be purchased in advance for $10 for a sheet of 18 tickets.
