Governor Bev Perdue planted collard greens and cabbage outside the Executive Mansion Friday.

The fruits of her labor will be donated to the "Plant a Row for the Hungry" campaign, a national organization that encourages gardeners to grow a little extra produce to the less-fortunate.

The governor plans to donate the harvest of her fall garden to the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle.

Bless her heart. The thinks one row of collard greens is gonna feed all the hungry?

Why can't the "less-fortunate" (what an *awful* term!) do a bit of gardening themselves?

And while we're at it, why do the soup kitchens always need volunteers to serve food to these people? Why can't a few of the "less-fortunate" masses do it themselves?
