Fayetteville police benefit from stimulus

Posted Updated

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — enough to hire and train 17 new officers, a spokeswoman said Wednesday. The money comes from a stimulus grant, the federal COPS Hiring Recovery Program.

Fifty police departments across the state got grants last week to be used to bolster forces and counter recession-related staff reductions.

The new hires will bring the number of Fayetteville officers to 380.
