New pet adoption fees offer savings
The Wake County Animal Care, Control and Adoption Center is offering older animals for adoption at lower prices.

RALEIGH, N.C. — The Wake County Animal Care, Control and Adoption Center is offering older animals for adoption at lower prices.
Effective July 1, fees for senior dogs and senior cats are $20 less than those charged for younger animals. If the pet is already spayed/neutered before coming to the animal shelter, the $50 surgery fee will be waived.
“We have many wonderful animals available for adoption at the Wake County Animal Center,” Michael Williams, Wake County's animal care director, said in a statement. “We believe that the new adoption pricing system will allow more of them to find loving homes.”
Animal adoption fees includes adoption, vaccinations, microchip and flea and worm treatments.
A senior pet is classified as being 5 years and older. If pets are too young to receive rabies vaccinations at the time of adoption, owners can return when pets are old enough for the vaccine at no additional cost. The county will also charge $50 for spaying/neutering pets before adoption.
