N.C. Bankers Association awards scholarships to students

— Seven North Carolina high school seniors have been awarded a total of $112,000 in scholarships by the North Carolina Bankers Association. The scholarships are awarded annually, in the amount of $4,000 each, and are renewable for three additional years if the students maintain the predetermined scholastic standard.

This year’s recipients are:

  •  Philip James, son of Bob James, Fifth Third Bank, attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, is the recipient of the Hometrust Banking Partners Scholarship.
  • Rebecca Call, daughter of Janet Call, NewBridge Bank, attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, is the recipient of the Forlines Scholarship.
  • Katy Stewart, daughter of Charles Stewart, Park Sterling Bank, attending Washington & Lee University, is the recipient of the Whiting/Twiford Scholarship.
  • Adam Bowers, son of Hurley Bowers, RBC Bank, attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, is the recipient of the William White, Jr./RMIC/Old Republic Mortgage Insurance Corporation Scholarship.
  • Jonathan Coburn, son of Janice Coburn, First South Bank, attending North Carolina State University.
  • Stephen Hall, son of Marsha Hall, Fist Citizens Bank, attending North Carolina State University.
  • Jared Peacock, son of Judy Peacock, MidCarolina Bank, attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

The scholarships were available to incoming college freshmen with a parent who has been employed for a minimum of two years, as of March 7, by a member bank of the NCBA. The scholarships may be used at any accredited college or university.
