Letter carriers collect over 300,000 pounds for Food Bank

RALEIGH, N.C. — Area letter carriers helped collect non-perishable food donations in an effort to fight hunger during the 17th Annual Letter Carriers Food Drive.

“Stamp Out Hunger," is the nation’s largest one-day effort to fight hunger, more than 300,000 pounds of food were collected to benefit the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina, with branches in Durham, Greenville, Raleigh, Sandhills (Southern Pines) and Wilmington.

Donations this year were up by almost 60,000 pounds over last year. The May 9 food drive provided more than 257,000 meals.
