RALEIGH, N.C. — Knightdale's Public Safety Department has purchased a trailer and equipment that will be used at DWI and license checkpoints.

The funding for the equipment comes from a $19,800 grant from the North Carolina Governor's Highway Safety Program. The new equipment will be used for the first time Friday night.

“The grant allowed the department to obtain the equipment that will be used to keep our citizens safer,” Public Safety Department Sgt. Chris Darden said. "Our goal is to keep people from drinking and driving.

The grant also paid for a light tower, traffic cones, safety vests, traffic control signs and flashlights.
