Recycling gets easier in Cary

Posted April 13, 2009

— Cary is switching to 65-gallon recycling carts. The containers hold three times more than the old bins.

Delivery of the new carts starts Tuesday.

Town officials say the change will save the town about $600,000 annually.

They use the automated robotic trucks to pick up the new bins. That means 1 person to a truck. Currently they have 1 or 2 people per truck coming every week. So they can use fewer trucks & fewer people. I like the fact they will take chipboard & office paper now.

Maybe the savings is due to recyclables would be collected every other week instead of weekly which I guess would speed up daily collections.....and maybe the rolling containers are cheaper to replace than the ones that we use now that get beat to death over time.

Well that would be great but I don't quite get how its a money savings.

I would love for Apex to follow with this, too!

Yeah! I'd rather have one cart on wheels that everything can go into than 2 bins that get beat up every pick up day.
