Raleigh, N.C. — Doctors on Tuesday attached a new leg on Cassidy, a 5-year-old shepherd-mix from Long Island, N.Y., who was missing her right rear leg.
The dog inspired the North Carolina State University veterinary school to develop a leg that could be integrated into its skeleton. Veterinarians and engineers teamed up in late July to test the special surgery.
Cassidy walked on all fours Tuesday following the procedure.
