WRAL's Tom Suiter among honorees at Evening of Champions

CARY, N.C. — WRAL's legendary sports anchor Tom Suiter was presented with a lifetime achievment award March 5 at the 2009 Evening of Champions.

The event, a recognition of the best athletes, coaches and advocates for athletics in the Triangle, was held at the Embassy Suites, 201 Harrison Oaks Blvd. in Cary.

Other honorees include:

  • Mike Krzyzewski, Duke University and 2008 U.S. Olympic Team basketball coach
  • Clay Council, a local volunteer baseball coach
  • Elexis Gillette, U.S. Paralympian
  • Russell Wilson, N.C. State University quarterback
  • Landon Talley of Knightdale High School
  • Julie Ross of Green Hope High School

Skip Holtz, head football coach at East Carolina University, was scheduled to present the keynote address.

Glen Wesley, Carolina Hurricanes director of defenseman development, was the honorary chairman of this year’s event.

Evening of Champions is presented by SunTrust in partnership with 850 the Buzz and 620 the Bull.
