DURHAM, N.C. — A step show competition was held Friday in recognition of National Black HIV and AIDS Awareness Day.

Fraternities and sororities from local colleges and youth step teams performed at the event at the Durham Armory.

The N.C. Division of Public Health’s Communicable Disease Branch and other groups partnered for the “Life is Worth Saving” show.

Get Real, Get Tested provided free HIV and syphilis testing were available at the event.

More than 32,000 North Carolinians live with HIV, according to DHHS. More than 70 percent of new cases are being reported in the African Americans community.
