Downtown Raleigh parking deck opens

Wake County opened a parking deck in downtown Raleigh Monday.

The deck at 216 W. Cabarrus St. includes 991 parking spaces on nine levels and replaces the Garland H. Jones Parking Deck on Salisbury Street. The main entrance and exit for the new deck is on Cabarrus Street, and a second entrance and exit is on Davie Street.

The deck has several security systems, including four emergency phones with video surveillance located on each level, video monitoring throughout the facility and security officers patrolling the deck. All security systems are monitored in the Wake County Security Center 24 hours per day.

The deck will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week. McLaurin Parking Co. will oversee deck operations and staff an attendant from 6:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. weekdays.

Fees at the new parking deck will be the same as fees that were charged at the Garland H. Jones Deck. Daily public parking rates are $1 for the first half-hour, $1 for the second half-hour and $1 for each additional hour, with a daily maximum rate of $8.
