Hoops for Hope has special poignancy

Posted — UpdatedRALEIGH, N.C. — An emotional Hoops for Hope event will be held Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at Reynolds Coliseum as N.C. State plays Virginia in a women’s basketball game.
More than 8,500 fans bought tickets in advance for the annual fundraiser – a sellout – for the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund. Tickets were $10 for adults and $5 for children.
Hoops for Hope was cherished by longtime Wolfpack coach Kay Yow, who battled breast cancer for years and died Jan. 24. Her assistant, Stephanie Glance, is now coaching the Wolfpack team.
WRAL's Pam Saulsby will host a halftime salute to breast cancer survivors. Pam and other members of Team WRAL will be on hand to collect contact information for those who may be interested in participating in the annual Triangle Race for the Cure. A commemorative DVD tribute to Yow will also be available for purchase.
State is 10-14 overall and 2-7 in the ACC after beating Wake Forest Thursday night. Virginia, ranked No. 15 in the country, is 19-6 overall and 5-4 in the ACC.
