Cary, N.C. — Grace Christian School launched its first-ever Hoops for Hope event Friday night.
The event included a silent auction, sales of pink T-shirts and basketball games. Organizers hope to raise $4,000, but officials said they ended up with close to $7,000.
Some of the event’s proceeds will go to the Kay Yow Breast Cancer Foundation.
This year’s official Hoops for Hope event is Feb. 15 at North Carolina State University. The Wolfpack will host the University of Virginia at Reynolds Coliseum.
The annual event at N.C. State was started by women’s basketball coach Kay Yow. The event, which has been copied by other colleges and high schools, combines a fundraiser with a way to honor those who have survived their battles with cancer.
