Help us cover Krispy Kreme Challenge

Posted February 5, 2009

— More than 5,000 intrepid "athletes" will attempt Saturday's fifth annual Krispy Kreme Challenge in downtown Raleigh.

From a starting line at North Carolina State University's bell tower, participants run two miles to the Krispy Kreme at Peace and Person streets, consume a dozen of the shop's signature donuts, then run back to the start.

The $16 registration fee benefits the North Carolina Children's Hospital.

The tone of the event is evident in the costumed participants and the prominent mention of regurgitation on the event's Web site will have a photographer at the Krispy Kreme Challenge on Saturday, and we encourage you to help us cover the chaos.

Good idea, but definitely not for those with health issues - but then they wouldn't make the run anyway.

    God bless.

I'm doing the event for the first time tomorrow. But only as a "casual" competitor who can eat as many or as few donuts as I choose. I'm excited to take part in something unique to Raleigh and support a great cuase at the same time.

If the money is going to a good cause, who cares how its raised! I love the krispy kreme challenge! Its a fun, new way to do something good for children. I have gladley paid the $15 and a days worth of indegestion twice for a great story to tell.

hereandnow99 - I'm sure if you'd like to just donate the $80,000 made off of registration fees plus the cost of 5000 dozen donuts being supplied by Krispy Kreme directly to the Children's Hospital, they'd be willing to drop the whole thing!!

Have any of you ever read "Eat This, Not That?" Did you know that a Krispy Kreme dounut has less fat and calories than a multi-grain bagel with light plain creme cheese? And honestly, the people, like me, who do this kind of thing don't overindulge on a regular basis. Do you think someone who isn't healthy could run 4 miles? It's a fun and exciting way of raising money for a good cause.
