Duke Gardens rates with 'Southern Living' readers

The Sarah P. Duke Gardens was named one of the top 10 public gardens in “Southern Living” magazine’s Readers’ Choice Awards.

Asheville’s Biltmore Gardens was the only other gardens in the state included in the list, which appears in the January issue.

“I am pleased ‘Southern Living’ readers recognize what a treasure Duke Gardens is, and I hope the honor will encourage yet more readers to discover its beauty,” William LeFevre, executive director of Duke Gardens, said in a statement.

More than 41,000 readers participated in the 13th annual Readers Choice Awards, voting for more than 500 public gardens from 17 Southern states and the District of Columbia.

Based at Duke University, the 55-acre Sarah P. Duke Gardens includes an Asiatic arboretum, a garden of native plants, Italianate terraces and other attractions. A new children’s garden is also planned.
