Bring a toy, get a ride on a fire truck

Posted December 14, 2008

— Durham firefighters are collecting toys. In exchange, they will give you a ride on a fire truck.

The Durham Fire Department launched its 2008 Toys-4-Rides campaign this weekend, in conjunction with the Marines' Toys-4-Tots program.

On Sunday, you can donate toys for children of all ages at Fire Station 1, 139 E. Morgan St., or Fire Station 2, 1001 Ninth St., from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Firefighters will pay you back with a spin on a fire engine.

Toys can be donated at any fire station during business hours until Dec. 21.

The collected toys will be distributed to children in need throughout Durham County this month.

Sickfreak....give me a break! I'd like to go for a spin on a fire truck! Trucks are REQUIRED to go out several times a day to make sure everything is working properly...they can count those as their required test drives.
