DURHAM, N.C. — Members of the Durham Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority joined nations of the world Saturday in the inaugural World's Biggest Walk.

The 5K walk – the first of its kind – began as a grassroots campaign in Australia to raise awareness about organ donation and transplantation.

Durham's participants began at the Alumnae Delta House and walked along the American Tobacco Trail.

Nearly 3,000 people are waiting for organ transplants in North Carolina, according to a news release from the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.
