V Foundation awards grants
The V Foundation for Cancer Research has awarded this year’s Scholar and Translational grants, the foundation announced Friday.
Posted — UpdatedCARY, N.C. — The V Foundation for Cancer Research has awarded this year’s Scholar and Translational grants, the foundation announced Friday.
Fifteen scientists from nine different states were awarded the $100,000, two-year grants from the V Foundation for Cancer Research.
Dr. Jennifer R. Cochran, of Stanford University Comprehensive Cancer Center in Palo Alto, Calif., was given the Martin D. Abeloff Scholar Award.
“Each of the more than 50 National Cancer Institute-designated Cancer Centers nominates their most outstanding new faculty member as a candidate and the V Foundation Advisory Committee then selects the most promising 15 young investigators as V Scholars,” said Robert C. Bast, Jr., M.D., vice president for Translational Research at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center and a member of the Scientific Advisory Board. “This is an extraordinary group who will have a major impact on cancer over the next decades.”
Translational research grants are $600,000, three-year commitments. This year’s seven recipients range in concentration from breast and prostate cancers to melanoma and lymphoma, according to a press release from the foundation.
