Service to honor fallen firefighters

A memorial service and candlelight vigil this weekend will honor fallen firefighters across the nation who died in the line-of-duty during the previous year.

EMMITSBURG, MD. — A memorial service and candlelight vigil this weekend will honor fallen firefighters across the nation who died in the line-of-duty during the previous year.

On Saturday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. a candlelight service will be held at the National Shrine of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton in Emmitsburg, Maryland, according to STATler 911, a blog providing live coverage of the events. (Watch the candlelight vigil live)

On Sunday, the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service will be held at the official national monument for all fallen firefighters – the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial from 9:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m.

This year 101 firefighters who died in 2007 will have their names added to the memorial. The names of nine firefighters who died in previous years will also be added to the memorial, according to the event’s Web site.

In its 27 year history, it will be the second time memorial events will be streamed live online.
