RALEIGH, N.C. — The Wake County Board of Education decided to fund $300,000 worth of teacher bonuses cut from the 2008-09 budget.
Teachers who took on much-needed roles in the district -- teaching mathematics, science, special education, ESL and foreign languages -- were promised a one-time $1,000 bonus.

In a meeting Tuesday, the school board approved a plan to use money from the undesignated fund – an allottment they have for unexpected expenses – to fulfill that promise to teachers who signed on under the bonus program before July 15, 2008.
