A former North Carolina State University runner has completed a cross country journey.

In 115 days, Elena Helmerick, 24, ran across America.

Helmerick, born in Wyoming, started in Virginia Beach in April. Averaging about 200 miles per week, Helmerick finished Thursday in Santa Cruz, Calif.

During the run Helmerick raised money for two charities – World Hunger Year and Run Diabetes Run, a non-profit group based in the Triangle.

This is truly an amazing feat. That's 28 miles a day for 115 days. I have run one marathon before (26 miles) and was laid up for days with ice on my knees, so can't imagine doing it 114 more times! Congrats!!!
