— The Wake Correctional Center Men's Service Club plans to deliver 10 donated air conditioners Friday to the Cool for Wake program, which will then distribute the units to low-income residents.

The service club is made up of inmates who conduct a variety of fundraising activities throughout the year. The men volunteer to provide donations to the Wake County community and their prison community.

Cool for Wake assists 300 to 500 households each summer, providing them with air conditioners to fend off the heat. Elderly citizens, small children and people with chronic respiratory illnesses can be harmed by prolonged exposure to extreme heat.

I think this is great; people who are imprisoned should get a chance to make amends to the community they have harmed. I know that the notion of true rehabilitation while incarcerated is a radical one, but it does sometimes happen. Hurray for all concerned!
