ARLINGTON, VA. — LaHoma Smith Romocki, an assistant professor in the Department of Health Education at North Carolina Central University, was honored Thursday for her work with the Peace Corps.

Romocki volunteered and worked in Peace Corps efforts during the 1980s. In 2007, she led a group of NCCU students on a study-abroad trip to Ghana, where they met with Peace Corps volunteers and staff.

She is one of 11 people to earn the Franklin H. Williams Award this year. The award honors returned Peace Corps volunteers of color who continue the Peace Corps mission through community service and increasing understanding of other peoples by Americans.
