— Retired broadcasting executive Hannah Gage of Wilmington has been elected to a two-year term as chairwoman of the University of North Carolina Board of Governors, the policy-making body of the 16-campus UNC system.

Gage, whose term begins July 1, is the first woman elected to lead the Board of Governors.

Raleigh government relations consultant Peter Hans was elected vice chairman, and Roper Mayor Estelle “Bunny” Sanders was re-elected secretary.

The founder and former owner of Cape Fear Broadcasting Co., Gage was elected to the Board of Governors in 2001. The Fayetteville native graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill in 1975 with a bachelor’s degree in journalism.
