Asheboro, N.C. — A record number of visitors made the trip to the North Carolina Zoo over Memorial Day weekend.
Over three days, 32,732 visitors were recorded, up from 24,506 during the same period in May 2006.
Zoo officials cite the attraction of the new Watani Grasslands Reserve as a major factor. The Watani Grasslands Reserve, an $8.5 million habitat for the zoo’s elephants and rhinoceroses, opened in April.
