Symphony's Summerfest offers variety of outdoor concerts

— The North Carolina Symphony announced the lineup for its 22nd annual series of concerts at Regency Park in Cary Tuesday.

The concerts are held under the stars at Koka Booth Amphitheatre each Saturday at 7:30 p.m. from June 7 through July 19. Ticket prices vary, but children under 12 are admitted free. Picnickers can purchase concessions, pack a snack or pre-order a picnic from the amphitheatre.

The lineup for the Summerfest 2008 series is as follows:
June 7: Feel the Beat featuring percussionist Evelyn Glennie and local high school drum-corps members

June 14: Classical Storytellers, including Tchaikovsky’s Sleeping Beauty and Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherezade

June 21: Forbidden Broadway -- the biggest hits of yesterday and today

June 28: Northern Lights. Cool off with Russian and Scandinavian favorites.

July 5: Concert Singers of Cary salute to the Greatest Generation

July 12: Blues in the Night performed by Piedmont blues duo Cephas & Wiggins

July 19: Take It to The Limit – A symphonic tribute to the Eagles

    Now, if they were only FREE concerts like the Denver Symphony used to do in local parks in the summertime - bring the Arts to the common folk, instead of being elitist.

    Oh....I forgot....this is not progressive Colorado.
