Wake County Public School System

— Three Wake County high schools were included Tuesday in U.S. News & World Report's rankings of the best high schools in the nation.

Broughton High School in Raleigh ranked No. 3 in the state and No. 996 in the country, the school system said.

Sanderson High School, also in Raleigh, ranked No. 12 in the state and No. 1,756 nationwide.

Each school earned the magazine's silver medal.

Garner Magnet High School was also ranked by the magazine as a bronze-medal school.

U.S. News & World Report worked with a Washington, D.C.-based research institute to evaluate 22,000 high schools in 49 states.

this is such a bogus report. the fact of the matter is that green hope high school is the sought after school for scholarships and when duke university is looking for talent that is where they go. they don't go to garner magnet. garner has a rock star principal but the record is about to end.

Why can't this be in the headlines instead of low down on the food chain.

Now we see things are not so dire and in fact we have some darn good schools. Z Man

No, those schools are coasting on the investments made over the last 14 years. If we don't re-fund the schools, we will start to go downhill.

The problems didn't start in a day - the mismatch of seats and neighborhoods started 15+ years ago - and we won't see further impacts tomorrow, but we will see them in 5 - 10 years.

Looks like there is at least some hope for the future.

Glad to see that Garner is getting some well deserved academic recognition in addition to all the other wonderful things that go on there!

Sanderson is a hidden gem in Raleigh. Great schools, good teachers - just keep your kids in the honor classes to avoid those who don't care to learn - but our daughter did well at SHS and always knew it was a good school.

Sad that our # 3 is # 996 in nation.

Still, glad to see the Caps up that high.

All we've heard from The Bev is gloom and doom over our education system. She really wants that .75% sales tax increase. Yet we know that money will get diverted just like the tax money the Education Lottery money replaces. Now we see things are not so dire and in fact we have some darn good schools. Thank god The Bev is gone. Looks like she's been exaggerating the circumstances.

So where's Enloe asked the proud Broughton grad?
