Research Triangle Park, N.C. — About 2,500 people marked a fundraising milestone Saturday in Research Triangle Park. Donors to the Triangle Walk to Defeat ALS brought in more than $325,000 for patient support and research into the causes and cures for ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease.
It's believed about 30,000 people in America have ALS. North Carolina has four clinics devoted to ALS patients, more than any other state.
