ELM CITY, N.C. — Coopers Elementary School in Elm City said farewell to a very special member of its staff Friday. Zeus, the reading therapy dog, retired after 10 years of service to teachers and students.

During his tenure with the Nash-Rocky Mount Public Schools, Zeus inspired hundreds of children to read to him.

On Friday, he celebrated with cake, and a pile of retirement gifts was donated to a local shelter in his name.

The school will create a scholarship fund his honor.
