New commander to oversee Pope unit

FORT BRAGG, N.C. — Brig. Gen. Norman Ham assumes command of the 440th Airlift Wing on Sunday, officials said.

Ham, the former mobilization assistant to the 2nd Air Force Commander at Keesler Air Force Base, Miss., will succeed Col. Merle D. Hart, who is departing Pope Field to become the assistant to the vice commander of the Air Force Reserve Command Headquarters at Robins Air Force Base, Ga.

Hart has led the 440th Airlift Wing since 2004.
