Symphony season begins with free concert

The North Carolina Symphony kicks off the 2011-2012 performance season Sunday with a free concert at the Raleigh Amphitheatre.

RALEIGH, N.C. — The North Carolina Symphony kicked off the 2011-2012 performance season Sunday, Sept. 3, with a free concert at the Raleigh Amphitheatre.

Maestro William Henry Curry conducted works by Beethoven and Tchaikovsky (Swan Lake), contemporary selections by John Williams (Raiders of the Lost Ark) and Andrew Lloyd Webber (Phantom of the Opera) as well as all-American marches by W.C. Handy and John Philip Sousa.
