American Legion honors Raleigh officer
The national American Legion on Wednesday named a Raleigh police officer with its Law Officer of the Year Award.

Officer Scott Womack, a seven-year veteran of the Raleigh Police Department, was cited for the close relationship he has established with the community he serves and for carrying out his duties in an exemplary manner.
Womack serves as crime prevention officer for the police department's Northwest District. He meets regularly with residential and civic organizations, conducting presentations for homeowners associations and scouting groups. He also manages his district’s Community Watch program, has established an electronic database of trespassing reports and has created a network of retail loss-prevention officers to help guard businesses in the district.
A graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Womack previously served as an investigative social worker with Nash County Child Protective Services. He also has an MBA degree from Pfeiffer University.
