A man from Atlanta died at Nags Head on Friday after he was pulled from the ocean.

Around 10:15 a.m., Nags Head Fire and Rescue responded to the Glidden public beach access after learning about a swimmer in distress.

Volunteers pulled the man from the ocean before first responders arrived. The man was taken to The Outer Banks Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Officials don't yet know if rip currents contributed to the incident. The man's name was not released.
