Chapel Hill electric bus catches fire; 10 other buses removed as caution

The Chapel Hill Fire Department responded to an electric bus fire on Tuesday afternoon.

The incident took place at 2:47 p.m. when a Chapel Hill Transit electric bus caught fire in the transit lot at 6900 Millhouse Road.

No injuries have been reported, and the damage was limited to the bus involved.

As a precautionary measure, Chapel Hill Transit has removed 10 other electric buses from service until the cause of the fire is determined. Service impacts for customers are not expected.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
