Volunteers wanted for community garden effort in Wake Forest

The Town of Wake Forest is inviting area residents to help plant the DuBois Community Garden this Saturday, May 8, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Volunteers should meet at the DuBois Community Development Center offices, at 150-A N. White St.

The DuBois Community Garden is a grassroots effort with support from numerous area organizations, including the Town of Wake Forest, BreezePlay, the DuBois CDC, the East End Neighborhood Association, HerbFest, the Wake Forest Farmers’ Market, Wake Forest Farms, Nature’s Green-Releaf, and the Graham Johnson Cultural Arts Endowment.

The garden will be planted on a plot of land donated by the DuBois CDC, while Wake Forest Farms’ Kent Smith is contributing the garden design and layout, plus much of the labor.

Smith and Natures' Green Releaf have already begun building raised beds for the garden and will be educating and directing volunteers throughout Saturday's gathering.
